Once the team has identified and clearly defined the problem or opportunity to be addressed, and secured the approval of the Executive Sponsor and the department head, administrator or health official to develop innovative solutions to solve it, the next step is idea generation, or ideation.

Our goal is to create a broad universe of ideas that might address our problem or opportunity. Eventually we will evaluate all the ideas, but at this point, we want to generate ideas freely and without boundaries. The more ideas we have, the higher the likelihood that we will find one or more high quality ideas.
